Starting in Spring 2018 I will be starting my first book project documenting stories from wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centers with writing, photographs, and original paintings. My years working as a rehabilitator have given me profound appreciation for the individual lives of wild animals and I feel that as an artist I have the right tools to create a window for others to see into their world. Working in wildlife rescue is deeply personal; we protect nature one life at a time and we take that care directly into our own hands and hearts. As healers and caretakers these experiences can be deeply impactful. We are lifted up by their recovery and hurt by their losses. When we open ourselves up to feeling their joy and their pain it fosters a strong, lasting commitment to the well-being of all animals and to conservation of the natural world as a whole. This is what I want to pass on to the readers of this book by telling their stories.
Kickstarter and Patreon pages are coming soon for anyone who would like to be a part of this vision. Contributors will get access to behind-the-scenes material and a selection of donor rewards. Funding will allow me to travel to wildlife centers, assist with costs of supplies, and it will make it possible for me to commit the level of time and intensive work that I feel this project deserves.
